PEN Members’ Meeting in July: a summary
A note for PEN members: from Grace Evans and Lisa Davidson, Care Quality Commission (CQC)
Thank you to everyone who attended the PEN Members’ Meeting this month for sharing your insight and expertise with us on accessibility of CQC engagement.
We wanted to share back with you some of the key points from our discussions:
- More alternatives to online engagement are needed including in-person and telephone opportunities. These opportunities should also be communicated through preferred ways of communication for the communities we are trying to engage.
- Provide more support for those who want to engage with us online e.g. a telephone helpline for support
- Engagement activity needs to include:
- Clarity on purpose of engagement
- What will happen to insight
- How data and information is protected
- Incentivisation as a thank you for expertise and time – this can take multiple forms
- A feedback loop – even if nothing has been done, this improves trust and prevents a ‘so-what’ scenario
- Work with trusted and known organisations that are close to the people we want to engage to support with recruitment and engagement.
The CQC’s Public Engagement and Insight team will use the insight you provided alongside other insight to baseline the accessibility of our engagement and work to improve accessibility of engagement in line with the new public engagement strategy.
Many thanks again for your time.
