July updates from the PEN team
How PEN Community Engagement Officers, Paige Lyons and Marta Styk, and PEN Communications Officer, Brittany Hutchings, have engaged with you this month
Our first Focus Group
July marked our first ever Focus Group for PEN members.
To enable us to hear LGBTQ+ voices beyond Pride Month, the Focus Group discussed accessing and navigating primary and secondary care services for LGBTQ+ people.
Members networked with each other and shared information about their work in the Focus Group space.
Thank you to all who attended for sharing your insights with us. The feedback we received was really valuable feedback and we enjoyed this new way of engaging with you.
We’ll be holding more Focus Groups soon. Please find further updates in upcoming PEN newsletters, and we will be in touch with you directly if Focus Groups are relevant to your group or organisation. People you support and work with will also be welcome to join us.
Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Women’s Health Group
Paige Lyons, Community Engagement Officer for PEN, attended an online meeting led by women from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) communities who work alongside GRT-trained nurses in Surrey. It is held online and attended by GRT women from across the country.
This month, the group discussed GRT women’s lived experiences of pre- and post-natal care, as well as general wellness.
The group meets every 8 weeks, and Paige attends as regularly as possible.
Q:offee
Marta joined Q:offee, a regular social in Milton Keynes run by Q:Alliance, where she heard the voices of LGBTQ+ community members.
Thank you for inviting us along, it was a pleasure to meet people from the who have lived experience of using health and care services.
Leeds Disability Pride
Paige and Brittany celebrated Leeds Disability Pride, an event organised by Scope.
They learned of the development and history of the Disability Pride flag, engaged with representatives from Leeds City Council and heard a powerful talk on confidence as a disabled person by Disability Writer, Chloe Tear.
