Technology can help people stay in control of their lives, but comes at a big price.
Technology can help a person hold onto their independence, stay connected with friends and family and do tasks that they may otherwise have found difficult.
Technology is anything we use to help us solve a problem. It can be simple, like a can opener or more complex like a smart phone or a robot.
We use technology everyday and sometimes we forget what life would be without it. We sometimes forget that technology can help the people we support to be more independent or to self-manage their care and support needs.
We supported Tommy to use a Virtual Reality headset. He used it to go on a virtual safari to see the elephants. He loved to use the headset and often talked about his experience with the elephants. He has now booked a trip to Howletts Zoo to see them for real.
It also triggered him to remember and speak about other memories, like going on a helicopter ride. His staff team were unaware of his previous ride and are currently organising a helicopter ride over London for 2019.
