Self directed support

Recently the government has produced a number of papers which talk about a total transformation of social care. That means they want everyone to be able to choose what sort of care and support they get. This includes being able to take control of the money for your support, and, with help, plan your own package of support. This idea is called self directed support. The

people who help plan these packages are called ‘brokers’.

Choice Support are creating a Brokerage Service to help individuals get the support they want, when and how they want it. The rest of this leaflet tells you more about how Choice Support can help you.

Self directed support is:

A way of making services that gives you as an individual control over your life. It is supported by the government, who have agreed that they will give individuals a ‘pot of money’ to buy the support they need. This could be staff, or aids and adaptations, or advice and other types of support. The main thing to remember is that you can choose how to spend your money.

  • How can Choice Support help you?
  • We have people who can:
  • Help you do a person centred plan
  • Help you fill in forms for social services to ask for the money to pay for your support
  • Help put together a support package which we can then deliver ourselves, or help you find another organization to support you.

We have a menu of things we can do:

  • Help you to recruit and employ staff
  • Help you train staff
  • Help you supervise staff and make sure they do what you want them to do.
  • Help you to make a budget so you know how much things cost, and can keep track of how much you’ve spent
  • Help you to pay your staff each month and fill in all the paperwork.

How much will it cost you?

At the moment our help will be free, though this may change in the future
