Supported living

In supported living services housing and support are separate. This means that service users have proper tenancy agreements with their landlords, which are nothing to do with the organisation that is providing support. People also have more money than if they lived in residential care services, because they are eligible for more benefits.

Supported living services don’t have as many rules and regulations as residential homes. Lots of people like this, as they think that too many rules can make a service seem institutional. However, some other people raise concerns about this. We recognise these concerns, and think it is important that all services are checked and monitored regularly. One way we do this is through our Quality Checkers group, a team of people with learning disabilities that monitor services. We have many other ways of monitoring and checking services. Also, all Choice Support’s services are formally monitored and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
